From Devastation to Joy

Broken pick paper heart mended by tape

Thirty-two years ago, Tammie experienced the kind of loss most of us cannot even imagine.

A tragic house fire took the lives of her twin boys. They were just fifteen months old.

The grief was overwhelming. Tammie has shared honestly that in those days, she didn’t want to live anymore. The pain felt too heavy, too final, too unfair.

But a few months later, someone invited her to a concert by Petra.

That night, in the middle of the music and the message, Tammie encountered something she hadn’t felt since the fire: hope. Real hope. The hope of Jesus.

Around that same time, she was also introduced to Joy99 for the first time. Through the music and the encouragement she heard on the radio, God slowly began doing what felt impossible—bringing healing to a broken heart.

Fast forward to today.

Tammie loves playing the Joy99 Match Game, and recently one of the prizes on the board was tickets to see Petra.

To most people it might just be a concert ticket.

But to Tammie, it meant so much more. That band was part of the moment God began restoring her life. She quietly hoped she might win them as a tribute to that turning point.

But getting through and being caller number nine? That usually takes a lot of luck.

Or maybe… a little providence.

Against the odds, Tammie got through—and she was caller number nine before anyone else could grab the tickets.

When she shared her story on Joy99, there wasn’t a dry eye.

From unimaginable devastation to unexplainable joy, Tammie’s life is a reminder that God is still in the business of redeeming what feels beyond repair.

Scripture reminds us of this promise in Jeremiah 29:11-14

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. "I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, "and I will bring you back from captivity."  I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

Tammie wants anyone who is walking through tragedy today to hear this: You are not alone.

And even in the darkest moments, there is still hope.
