A Little Chip - Even Bigger Perspective

I’m pretty sure our car is a pebble magnet. Over the last few years, we’ve had four different rocks hit our windshield, each of them leaving a little chip behind. Honestly, it’s starting to feel a little personal, like somehow, every loose stone on the road is aiming straight for us.

And even though the stones usually don’t leave a BIG mark, they are noticeable. And once you see them, it’s hard to UNSEE them.

Before long, your eyes keep drifting back to that little chip or crack. It’s right in your line of sight. It’s distracting. It’s annoying. And if you’re not careful, it can feel like it’s taking over your entire view.

Isn’t that how life can feel sometimes?

A problem shows up—maybe it’s stress at work, a tough conversation, financial pressure, or something deeper. At first, it’s just a small “chip.” But the more we focus on it, the bigger it seems. Our attention locks in, and suddenly it’s all we can see.

And when that happens, we start to lose perspective.

The truth is, that tiny crack never actually takes up the whole windshield—it just feels that way because we keep staring at it.

Spiritually, it’s the same. When we fix our eyes only on the problem, we can miss the bigger picture of what God is doing all around us. His faithfulness, His provision, His presence—it’s still there. We just have to look up.

As Paul reminds us:
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:18

That doesn’t mean we ignore the problem. Our chipped windshield still needs to be fixed. But it does mean that we don’t have to let the chips define our entire view.

So if something in your life feels like it’s taking over your perspective today, take a moment to shift your focus. Try and look past the chip. There’s still a whole road ahead—and God is already there with you.
