“Tunnel”
You got your disappointments and sorrows. You ought to share the weight of that load with me.
Then you will find that the light of tomorrow, well it brings new life for your eyes to see.
Third Day “Tunnel”
A couple of weeks ago, Amanda and I, along with Tommy & Brooke, made our way to the Van Andel Arena for the 30th Anniversary Tour for Third Day, with special guest, Zach Williams.
It was a great time!
We spent time at the Joy99 table in the concourse, connecting with listeners like YOU!
We had the chance to welcome you into the evening from stage. You all sound so good shouting “Feel the Joy!” together!
AND…we were able to enjoy the show right alongside you!
While Mac Powell and the rest of Third Day played hit after hit, I was struck by this moment:
On the surface, this clip of Third Day’s song “Tunnel” isn’t anything special, but it is. At least, to me.
I’ve only seen Third Day perform twice during my time in Christian Radio/Music. Most recently during the 30th Anniversary Tour on April 4th, 2026 and for the first time at the Allegan County Fair on September 15th, 2005.
I was maybe a month into being promoted from part-time to full-time at Joy99 and in awe of my evening as I hand the chance to go backstage with Tommy and a few other staff members to meet Mac Powell for the first time.
Then, I went and sat in the Grandstands and enjoyed the concert. The whole concert experience was still relatively new to me as I didn’t attend a lot of concerts prior to my radio career.
That night, Third Day did what many artists do…”Here’s a new song from our upcoming album!” and launched into “Tunnel”. I whipped out my Motorola SLVR (linked so you can laugh at early 2000 phones) and pressed record to grab a clip of the song, which I listened to over and over.
This memory came flooding back and it made me smile.
To say that SO MUCH has happened over those 21 years would be an understatement. Like anyone, those 21 years had ups and downs, but throughout it all, I was (and am) reminded about the kindness, generosity, and goodness of God in my life.
I think it can easy for us to invite God into the needs of our here and now and our future, but what about inviting Him into gratitude for what He’s done over time to make us new?
I appreciated this reminder and I hope that my experience can help you take a moment to reflect back on God’s work to make YOU new!
Oh, and as for “Tunnel”…it’s a great reminder that if you currently find yourself in a challenging season, “There's a light at the end of this tunnel, shining bright at the end of this tunnel for you, for you. So, keep holding on.”
