How it started…how it ended.

The other night, my husband The Captain and I went out to eat. In the middle of our meal, a guy from the other side of the bar area said “I’m not ready to wear my Michigan shirt yet”. (my husband was wearing his) We looked at him and he said “I think Western was robbed and I don’t feel comfortable showing my UofM spirit quite yet”. So I clarified and asked if he was talking about that game with the one second controversy. He nodded. And went on to say “but regardless, your meal’s been paid for.” What??? He said “I haven’t seen anyone pray before eating their meal in a very long time. And I noticed you both did, so I bought your meals”.

Wow. What I thought was going to be some sort of disagreement about the WMU / UofM game turned into a huge blessing. See, my husband who is a Michigan fan and I have had many discussions about that game since I’m a WMU graduate. We’ve jabbed each other and moved on. And even though this nice man wasn’t QUITE ready to move on, he blessed us.

I think too many times we get caught up in what divides us rather than what we have in common. Politically,  sports fandom, even attending different churches can separate us from the mission God has called us to. Don’t get stuck there. Come together and finish well.

Romans 12:18 (NIV) If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

And if it’s been awhile since you’ve prayed before your meal, here’s a quick refresher.
