God Is Planting Something New
The other morning, I decided to head outside for a long 9 mile run. It was the day sandwiched between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. It was cloudy. It was quiet. It just felt "odd".
The Savior they followed for 3 years was crucified, dead and buried. He displayed never before seen love. He performed never before seen miracles. And, He promised that it would be for their good if He went away.
I have to wonder if something felt, "odd" to the disciples the day after Jesus was crucified. Sandwiched in between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. I imagine they felt like winter" had consumed them. Confused. Sad. Angered. Afraid. Empty. Like winter, it took a toll on them.
He could've pulled Himself off of the cross. He could've stopped the pain. He didn't.
On my run today, I thought about how dark the church was for Good Friday service. The cross stood bare. It was heavy and sad. Jesus, silent in the tomb. I, like the disciples, needed to hold my breath. It felt like "winter".
But now, it is spring. I have gotten back outside to run, and it has been wonderful. The smell of fresh cut grass. The sound of kids playing. Even dodging worms on the sidewalk has been refreshing.
That’s spring. Michigan makes you wait for it—but when it comes, it’s like the world starts over. It’s how God designed it. New creation, rising from the cold.
Easter’s kind of like that too. After the darkest day, Jesus stepped out of that tomb. It wasn’t just a comeback—it was a whole new beginning. Not just for Him, but for all of us.
That's the truth of Easter. Even in the coldest seasons, God is already planting something new. Hope is found!
Goodbye winter. It is Spring. He IS Risen. Always Run by Faith!
