A Valentine for Mom
I can’t even begin writing about this mission without tears of joy.
Joy Bus received a nomination to bring joy to a lady who was going through a rough divorce while trying to be a great mom to her three daughters and one living with special needs.
As with all nominations or mission ideas, I sat in prayer over this mom and the word February was being highlighted. At the time, we were three weeks away from Valentine’s Day and so it made sense that on her first Valentine’s day as a single mother, God would want to pour some love on her.
I got this plan in motion by contacting her girl’s school to get more information on this mom and how best to support her family. In doing so, we learned that she was working multiple jobs just to keep afloat.
With the help from the community they lived in, we were able to come up with a variety of gift cards. Restaurants, grocery stores, gas cards, clothing boutiques, a spa day with mom, someone to pay for school tuition and another family gave American Girl dolls to each girl along with a gift card for accessories.
This community of people really rallied around this family. When the delivery day came, the school managed to get the mom to stop in for what she thought would be a meeting regarding one of her daughters…until the Joy Bus rolled up.
The three girls were all taken out of class and met up with their mom which caused even more confusion for this deserving mom.
As I handed this mom a bouquet of roses with gift cards placed around the flowers, I was able to tell the little girls that we heard how amazing their mom was and that we wanted to celebrate that.
After the gifts were given, I looked at this family. Surrounding them were all of their teachers, support staff, secretaries and the principal. While I was in tears at this point, I had this mom take a look at all of the support that surrounded them. It was a true vision of Jesus.
Later that day I received an email from one of the teachers. She explained that morning during the “meeting” with this mom was in tears over not receiving child support for the month of February, and that the joy we brought came at just the right time. God’s timing!
He knew we needed to wait to bring her all of these gift cards to be able to use so that her other funds could go to rent. Wow, we have such a great Father!
A few weeks later Joy Bus received a card from this mom and it said, “..your gifts were fun, helpful and most of all spoke, you are loved, seen and wanted, and it made more of a difference than I can say”.
