Joy at the Grocery Store
A fun mission I like to do is head to a grocery store with gift cards and hand them out to shoppers to help with their groceries.
With each gift card I ask the Lord to guide me to who needs it the most.
Sometimes people say no thank you with having a guard up thinking I want more than to just give them a gift.
Sometimes the receiver says that they don’t need it so I let them be the ones to deliver the joy to someone else.
In most cases each person is in need and tearfully takes it and there is one time that particularly stands out. I pulled from my pocket one last gift card to give.
Asking God to lead me, I went up and down the aisles until I saw a mom with a toddler.
I saw that she didn’t have much in her cart but I handed her the gift card and explained why I was giving the gift.
She broke down crying explaining that her family was having a hard season financially and she was having to go to the store each day to buy food for their dinner because they were living in a day by day situation.
She was so overwhelmed with joy that she had to call her husband and tell him of this good news.
As she was talking to him I put my hands back in my pocket and discovered another gift card!
Watching her realize she could now get a week's worth of food brought me to tears too. God is so good!
