A Solid Start

Summer is wrapping up, and I can hear the kids' moans and groans. Oh, and the parents? Anxiety is creeping in with the chaos surrounding the return to the school schedule.

JOY99 is encouraging you to begin the school year on the Firm Foundation of Jesus. He is the rock that never shifts. He never moves. He is solid! (Matthew 7:24-27)

Here's a fun example to prove the point.

Build a house of cards. It doesn't need to be very tall. The taller the better. It always looks more impressive.  

Next to it, build a structure made of Legos. Again, the height isn't important. What is important is that it is sturdier.

Then, place a fan directly in the path of both of them. Once you turn the fan on, the cards will fall, but the 'sturdy' Legos will not move.

The Legos represent a life that is built on a firm foundation. (Jesus) The wind from the fan started to blow, yet the Legos never moved.

The house of cards shows just how fragile life is without a solid foundation. It topples over once something happens.

It begs the question: when a storm (the wind from the fan) comes your way, will you be able to stand firm? Or, will everything just 'hit the fan'?
