Aging Gracefully
I've always thought my nose was a little big. It's kind of like my dad's...and my son definitely has my dad's nose. So after losing my dad recently, I can look at my son...or the mirror...and think of my dad. Now I kind of giggle about my nose instead of wanting to change it.
I have freckles. I feel like as I'm getting older, they've grown into larger freckles...okay "age spots". More and more my reflection resembles my mom's. She had freckles and age spots, too. So now I smile remembering her when I see them.
Aging is hard when you only look at it physically. I found some tips that have helped me and hopefully they'll help you think about aging BEYOND the mirror.

1. Limit stress as much as you can. Not everything deserves your energy—because constant stress doesn’t just wear you out mentally… it actually affects your body and even how you age.
2. Prioritize getting enough sleep. You can see when someone hasn’t slept—and you can feel it too. Rest isn’t lazy… it’s one of the best things you can do for your health and how you show up every day.
3. Fuel your body with good, nutritious food. What you eat matters more than you think—whole, healthy foods help your body feel better and actually support how you age over time.
4. Wear sunscreen—yes, every single day. This might be the simplest tip—but it’s huge. Protecting your skin daily is one of the easiest ways to prevent premature aging.
5. Make movement part of your routine. You don’t have to live at the gym—even a daily walk counts. Staying active keeps your energy up, your mood lifted, and your body strong.
6. Do more things that genuinely make you happy. There’s truth to the idea that joy shows—when you’re happier, it actually reflects in your energy, your attitude, even your appearance.
7. Cut back on sugar when you can. Too much sugar can cause inflammation and leave you feeling sluggish—so small changes can make a big difference over time.
8. Avoid smoking—it speeds up aging. This one’s pretty straightforward—smoking impacts your skin, your health, and your overall vitality more than most people realize.
9. Embrace the changes that come with aging. Instead of fighting it, lean into it. Aging isn’t something to fear—it’s something to appreciate, because every year is a gift.
Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout, is a beautiful face on an empty head." Proverbs 11:22
Let that help you seek INNER beauty, and worry less about the exterior.
