Project Night Lights
Each month, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital allows the community a chance to show their support in the most simple way.
First responder vehicles, school sports teams, bands, anyone from the community can circle around the children's hospital with a light in hand and once the sun goes down, all at the same time everyone turns their lights on and waves them up to the kids inside.
The really cool thing is each kid inside has their own flashlight that they shine down.
Being able to support and connect in this way is so touching and I found myself not wanting to leave once the event was done.
On one of these trips we were able to bring a girl and her family who once experienced this as a patient.
While we stood outside shining out lights, I happened to look over at her little cousin that was holding a flashlight in each hand while moving them in the motion to make a heart.
Looking up, I saw a little one inside creating the same heart motion right back to him.
