Age Is Just A Number
Ever do something and then say, with a deep sigh, “I cannot believe I just did that?”
Let me introduce you to a new friend. His name is named Claude. And Claude just kept saying, “I can’t believe I did that. I cannot believe I did that.”
Claude needed some help over the weekend. He could barely move. And he certianly was in no condition to get behind the wheel. So I offered to help him out.
I walked with him for a little over a half mile. He could barely walk without some assistance.
After what seemed like a snail’s pace, we finally arrived. He kept saying, “thanks for your help”. Followed by, “I can’t believe I did that. I cannot believe I did it”.
After saying that about another 10 times, Claude thanked me for my help. I said, “No, thank YOU”.
You see, Claude was in no condition to ride his bike back to his hotel room. So, I pushed his bike while he walked.
I learned that he is a researcher. So, Claude researched Mackinaw Island.
He learned about practice and determination. And Claude decided he wanted to try and swim around Mackinac Island. The toughest spots, the temp, the waves…all 8.2 miles of it.
And, after almost 8 hours in the water, Claude was in no condition to ride his bike back to the hotel. So I walked with him as he said, “I cannot believe I did that“.
Claude left me with a lot of inspiration, and reminded me that with practice and determination, you can do hard things. Even at Claude’s age of 76.
It reminds me of Proverbs 10:4, “Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” It’s “Laziness vs. Goals”! Goals WIN!
I raise my coffee mug to ya, Claude. Well done!
Age IS just a number. Keep making a difference. Always run by faith!
